Strengthening Border Security: Iran and Iraq Intensify Cooperation Against Smuggling and Terrorism
A crucial meeting aimed at bolstering border security and combating smuggling was held on Monday at the Khosravi border crossing in Qasr-e Shirin city, in Iran’s Kermanshah province. This strategic border crossing, situated on the frontier with Iraq, served as the venue where top military officials from both nations convened to discuss and enhance collaborative efforts.
General Goudarzi, a high-ranking official representing the Iranian side, underscored the significance of improving joint border patrols to tackle the persistent issue of goods smuggling effectively. Highlighting the severe consequences of arms smuggling, General Goudarzi called for a robust and determined approach to dealing with smugglers, particularly those involved in trafficking weapons and alcoholic drinks.
In his address, General Goudarzi elaborated on the need for increasing bilateral cooperation in exchanging intelligence between the border guards of Iran and Iraq. This, he asserted, is vital to preempt and thwart potential terrorist activities that jeopardize the security of both nations.
General Abdul Wahab, representing Iraq, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the high level of cooperation and interaction between the border guards of Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran. "This brotherhood," he noted, "enhances collaborations and significantly augments border security."
