Iran Press/West Asia – On the 10th anniversary of Yemen’s September 21 Revolution, Abdul-Malik Badr Ed-Din al-Houthi addressed the nation, highlighting Yemen’s significant advancements in military capabilities. He asserted that the revolution’s achievements were crucial for the country’s defense amid increasing regional tensions.
Decade of Transformation
The September 21 Revolution marks a pivotal moment in Yemen’s history. Emerging from a tumultuous period characterized by socio-economic challenges and foreign intervention, the revolution aimed to establish a self-sufficient and resilient Yemen. Over the past decade, Yemen has bolstered its military prowess, particularly in drones, naval capabilities, and ground force development.
Al-Houthi emphasized that Yemen’s strategy to enhance its military capabilities was essential to its survival. “If Yemen had pursued economic development without strengthening its military, the enemy would have destroyed Yemen in a single military operation,” he stated.
Independence and Regional Dynamics
The Yemeni leader stressed that the nation’s advancements were achieved independently, devoid of foreign influence. This assertion is crucial in understanding Yemen’s current stance in regional geopolitics. Particularly, al-Houthi highlighted ongoing tensions with the Zionist regime, viewing it as a significant threat since the revolution.
“The Zionist regime considers the September 21 Revolution more dangerous than Iran’s alleged nuclear weapon,” commented al-Houthi, underscoring the perceived existential threat that Yemen’s newfound military strength poses to Israel.
Confronting Israeli Aggression
Al-Houthi’s speech also addressed the broader regional conflict involving Israel. With recent hostilities inflating between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, he reiterated Yemen’s commitment to opposing Israeli aggression. He denounced Israel’s recent actions in Lebanon, alleging they were designed to escalate regional tensions deliberately.
Furthermore, al-Houthi reaffirmed Yemen’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. Despite facing numerous challenges, he insisted that Yemeni national and government perseverance continues in supporting the Palestinian people against Israeli brutality and expanding Zionist settlements.
Yemen’s Military Assertion
Highlighting a significant recent event, al-Houthi described a military operation on September 15, where Yemeni forces targeted an Israeli military site in Yafa of Tel Aviv with a ballistic missile. According to the Yemeni Army Spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the hypersonic missile successfully traversed 2040 kilometers in under 12 minutes, causing a historic alarm among Israeli settlers, with over two million seeking shelter.
This operation marked the first time in history that such a large number of Israelis had to reconvene to shelters, signaling the heightened efficacy and reach of Yemeni military capabilities.
Looking Ahead
As Yemen commemorates a decade since the September 21 Revolution, its leaders remain steadfast in pursuing both political autonomy and military capacity building. The upcoming years will undoubtedly see Yemen continue to navigate and assert its position within a highly dynamic and often volatile regional landscape.
