Saudi Contributions to Sustainable Development Highlighted at UN Forum

NEW YORK — Saudi Gazette report

At the High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development (HLPF), held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City from July 8 to 18, the Quality of Life Program, a key initiative under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, showcased the Kingdom’s efforts towards achieving sustainable development goals.

The opening session, entitled "From Vision to Impact: Integrations to Achieve Sustainable Social and Environmental Change," focused on bolstering awareness of Saudi Vision 2030 and the initiatives under the Quality of Life Program. Discussions centered on addressing significant urban challenges through advanced data, innovative practices, and the importance of collaboration and experience-sharing in meeting local, regional, and international objectives.

On the second day, an event titled "Quality of Life and its Link to Sustainable Development" featured interactive lectures and discussion sessions with experts and officials from Saudi Arabia and around the globe. Khaled Al-Bakr, CEO of the Quality of Life Program, opened the event by stressing the program’s pivotal role in fulfilling Vision 2030 and its sustainable development goals. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life in Saudi Arabia through various initiatives spanning arts and culture, sports, tourism, urban development, entertainment, hobbies, as well as security and safety.

"We seek to find innovative solutions and create a knowledge system that redefines the concept of quality of life," Al-Bakr stated. "Our cooperation with global partners such as the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) bolsters our efforts to achieve sustainable development goals."

The events garnered participation from representatives of numerous government agencies, including the Ministry of Economy and Planning, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, National Center for Oversight of Environmental Compliance, General Authority for Food Security, Royal Commission for Riyadh, Royal Commission for Al-Ula Governorate, Madinah Region Development Authority, and the Urban Observatory for the Qassim Region.

Saudi Arabia’s engagement in this high-level forum underscores the nation’s dedication to transforming into a global leader across various domains, in line with the aspirations of Vision 2030.
