PETA Stages Protest Against Ethiopian Airlines for Transporting Endangered Monkeys

In a dramatic demonstration, PETA supporters donned hazmat suits and paraded outside the Embassy of Ethiopia to denounce Ethiopian Airlines’ role in ferrying critically endangered long-tailed macaques from Mauritius and Southeast Asia to the U.S. for experimentation purposes. The protest, which took place on September 25, featured two giant crying “monkeys” as part of the call to halt this unethical practice.

This bold move comes on the heels of revelations that the state-owned airline has been implicated in facilitating the transportation of thousands of monkeys to American laboratories, despite prior assurances to PETA that such actions were against company policy. This development has reignited the ire of animal rights activists and the general public, who are aghast at the involvement of Ethiopian Airlines in an alleged illegal monkey-smuggling operation.

“Monkeys imported into the U.S. are torn away from their families, crammed into cargo holds, and transported across continents only to be subjected to cruel experiments that yield no benefits for humans,” emphasized Kathy Guillermo, PETA Senior Vice President.

The shocking exposé underscores the urgent need for greater oversight and scrutiny of airlines and their ties to animal exploitation. Ethiopian Airlines’ complicity in the suffering and exploitation of endangered primates serves as a stark reminder of the ethical dilemmas faced in the realm of animal testing and research.

The protest signals a growing chorus of dissent against the exploitation of animals for scientific purposes and underscores the need for stricter regulations to prevent such atrocities from taking place. As the public becomes increasingly aware of the realities of animal testing, pressure mounts on airlines and other entities involved in the transportation of animals to reassess their policies and practices.
