Iran Prepares for Presidential Elections in Afghanistan
Iran’s Consul General in Herat, Mohammad Sediqifar, announced that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Iranian presidential elections in Afghanistan. Speaking to the Iran Press news agency, Sediqifar emphasized that coordination with local authorities in Herat is in place to guarantee election security.
Sediqifar highlighted that Taliban officials have expressed their readiness to cooperate for the secure execution of the elections. “In our meetings with local Taliban representatives, they have assured us of their full support to hold the Iranian presidential elections securely," he stated.
Efforts to inform and invite Iranian citizens in western Afghanistan to participate have been extensive, with Sediqifar expecting approximately 90% voter turnout. Additionally, polling stations have been set up at the Iranian embassy in Kabul and consulates in Mazar-i-Sharif, Kandahar, and Jalalabad.
