    Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, the Vice Chief of the Indian Army, has been appointed as the next Army Chief, taking over from General Manoj C Pande on June 30. Lt Gen Dwivedi, commissioned into the Infantry (Jammu & Kashmir Rifles) in 1984, brings with him a wealth of experience and achievements in his 40 years of service.

    Born on July 1, 1964, Lt Gen Dwivedi is a distinguished alumnus of Sainik School Rewa, National Defence College, and the US Army War College. With an M Phil in Defence and Management Studies, along with two Master’s Degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science, he has a strong academic background to complement his extensive practical experience.

    Throughout his career, Lt Gen Dwivedi has held various important posts, including Command of Regiments, Brigade, Inspector General, Assam Rifles, and 9 Corps. He has also served as the Director General Infantry and General Officer Commanding in Chief (Headquarters Northern Command) before taking on the role of Vice Chief of the Army.

    A recipient of prestigious military honors such as the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and three GOC-in-C Commendation Cards, Lt Gen Dwivedi’s dedication and commitment to the Indian Army have been recognized and celebrated. Additionally, he was conferred the title of ‘Distinguished Fellow’ in the esteemed NDC equivalent course at the US Army War College.

    With his exemplary service record and impressive credentials, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi is poised to lead the Indian Army with valor and distinction as its next Chief.
