Ethiopia and Iran Strengthen Bilateral Ties to Boost Cooperation

In a recent meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation between the two nations. The State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, welcomed the newly appointed ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Ethiopia, Ali Akbar Rezaei. The meeting comes on the heels of Iran’s successful conclusion of the 2nd run-off presidential election, resulting in the election of Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian as the new Iranian President.

Ambassador Mesganu praised Iran for the successful election and expressed Ethiopia’s dedication to working closely with the newly elected President. Both parties discussed the importance of exploring opportunities within organizations such as BRICS to further strengthen their collaboration in various sectors.

Ali Akbar Rezaei, the Iranian Ambassador Designate, highlighted Iran’s commitment to expanding bilateral relations with Ethiopia, particularly in areas such as technology transfer, education, trade, and investment. He outlined plans to revive the Ethio-Iran joint ministerial commission meeting on economic, scientific, and technical cooperation in the near future to facilitate this increased collaboration.

The discussions between Ethiopia and Iran reflect a growing trend of countries in the region seeking to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties to promote mutual development and prosperity. As both nations look towards the future, the pledge to deepen cooperation signals a positive step towards enhanced relations between Ethiopia and Iran.
