Chinese Premier Li Qiang is scheduled to visit a lithium processing plant in Perth to showcase China’s interest in Australian resources and investments in the sector. This visit highlights the contrast between the West’s efforts to reduce Beijing’s dominance in critical minerals necessary for the energy transition. Additionally, lobster fishers are optimistic that Mr. Li’s upcoming visit to Australia will signify the lifting of an unofficial ban on exports to China and the conclusion of Beijing’s trade sanctions targeting $20 billion worth of commodities at its peak.
