BRICS Bloc to Establish Its Own Parliament: A New Era of Global Influence

In a significant development, the BRICS bloc, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has announced plans to establish its own parliamentary structure. This initiative aims to oversee the alliance’s operations and facilitate key projects, including ongoing de-dollarization efforts. The announcement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin, marking another milestone in BRICS’ expanding role on the global stage.

    A Vision for Unified Governance

Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered the announcement, emphasizing the need for an institutionalized parliamentary structure within the BRICS bloc. Speaking at a recent forum, Putin expressed his confidence that this idea would soon become a reality, enhancing BRICS’ capacity to execute its strategic initiatives.

“This idea will definitely be implemented in the future,” Putin stated, underscoring the necessity for a parliamentary entity to manage the alliance’s varied activities and ambitions.

    Rapid Expansion and Strategic Initiatives

Since its 2023 summit, BRICS has experienced remarkable growth and strategic evolution. The addition of four new members has fortified the bloc, enabling it to undertake substantial economic and political initiatives that challenge the prevailing global order. A notable endeavor is the group’s de-dollarization effort, aimed at reducing dependency on the US dollar and promoting the use of native currencies for international trade.

    Interconnection and Collaboration

The formation of a BRICS parliament would be pivotal for the alliance. One of the immediate goals is to develop an integrated payment system. This initiative has already seen progress with Iran, a new BRICS member, advocating for the interconnection of central banks among BRICS nations.

Nasser Kanini, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted ongoing collaborative efforts with Russia to link national payment systems. These efforts are expected to be extended to other BRICS nations, enhancing financial cohesion and reducing reliance on Western financial systems.

    Strengthening Global Standing

The establishment of a parliamentary structure within BRICS is anticipated to significantly boost the bloc’s effectiveness in executing its collective agenda. By institutionalizing collaboration, BRICS aims to strengthen its economic and political influence, positioning itself as a formidable counterbalance to Western powers.

    Looking Ahead

As BRICS continues to carve out a more pronounced role in global affairs, the formation of its own parliament could herald a new era of cooperative governance and strategic independence. This move not only solidifies the alliance’s internal coordination but also sets the stage for BRICS to further assert its influence on the international stage.
