Foreign Minister to attend “BRICS Dialogue with Developing Countries” in Russia
H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will attend “BRICS Dialogues with Developing Countries” during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on 11 June 2024 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, upon the invitation of H.E. Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia. The meeting will focus on the issues of sustainable development and global security in line with the theme of Russia’s BRICS chairmanship: “Strengthening multilateralism for fair global development and security.“
BRICS is a grouping of developing countries and emerging economies comprising 9 countries; namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Iran, United Arab Emirates and Egypt. Earlier on 28 May 2024, the Cabinet approved the letter expressing Thailand’s interest to join BRICS as a full member. BRICS membership will help enhance bilateral economic relations with all BRICS member states particularly in the areas of trade, investment, finance, food security, and energy security. This also underlines Thailand’s leading role among developing countries, as well as promoting Thailand’s constructive role in various cooperation frameworks, including ASEAN, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and G77.
