Children in Bauchi, Nigeria Protest Ongoing Violence in Gaza
Bauchi, Nigeria – On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the streets of Bauchi in Northeastern Nigeria became a vivid tableau of solidarity and protest, as children conducted a significant demonstration to decry the violence faced by Palestinians in Gaza. In an exclusive interview with Iran Press, eight-year-old Sabira Musa Bayi Muhammad shared her emotional connection to the Palestinian children. "As the holy month of Rabi ul Awwal begins, a month of celebrations and joy in which our beloved Prophet was born, we cannot forget our brothers and sisters in Gaza, especially the children," she stated. "We cry for them. Their parents are being killed by the Israeli terrorist army. They don’t have food to eat. Our hearts are with them and we always remember them. May Allah ease their suffering and bring an end to Israeli terrorists."
Another young demonstrator, Zainab Habib, highlighted the importance of the protest. "The significance of this procession can never be overemphasized because it is about the beginning of the month in which our holy Prophet was born. But at the current situation, our brothers and sisters in Palestine are living under the terrorism of Israel. Every day children are becoming orphans and women are becoming widows in Gaza due to Israeli terrorist attacks day and night. Schools are destroyed, hospitals are demolished, and homes are razed."
The marchers directed their ire not only at Israel but also at the United States and UNICEF, whom they accused of failing to intervene against the acts of violence in Gaza. "We thought it important to use all means to express our dissatisfaction and anger toward the United States and UNICEF for failing to stop the Israeli act of murder against women and children in Palestine," Zainab concluded.
The protests took place in various cities across the region and were notable for being peaceful, with no reported attacks from Nigerian security forces or takfiri terrorists.
