Iran and Kazakhstan Strengthen Ties with a Vision for Future Collaboration
In a pivotal meeting, Iran’s newly elected President, Masoud Pezeshkian, and Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, underscored the enduring and evolving relationship between Iran and Kazakhstan. Ashimbayev visited Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s 14th presidential term. Both leaders expressed a shared vision for leveraging their countries’ centuries-old cultural and historical ties to foster stronger diplomatic and economic partnerships.
Cultural and Historical Bonds
President Pezeshkian emphasized that the deep-rooted cultural connections between Iran and Kazakhstan have transcended political boundaries. "Iran, Kazakhstan, and other countries of the region have lived in a common cultural and civilization area," Pezeshkian asserted. "The cultural pride and personalities of the region belong to all of us." This historical unity, he argued, presents a unique opportunity to deepen contemporary relations, especially through initiatives such as student exchanges and scholarly collaborations.
Political and Economic Collaboration
Expanding on their shared cultural heritage, Pezeshkian proposed the creation of a regional union that could further dismantle political borders and promote collaboration. Such a union would help the countries in this cultural sphere to unify their efforts for mutual benefit.
Pezeshkian highlighted that his government prioritizes strengthening regional cooperation, with a special focus on implementing agreements with Kazakhstan. He pointed out that both countries have substantial potential for economic cooperation in areas such as trade exchanges, transit, and the oil and gas sectors. Additionally, there are promising opportunities in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and the export of technical-engineering services. "We will try to facilitate the implementation of the agreements with Kazakhstan," Pezeshkian noted.
A Unified Regional Approach
Both leaders acknowledged the mutual benefits of their countries’ memberships in regional organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). They emphasized the importance of enhancing regional and international cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations further.
Kazakhstan’s Commitment
Expressing Kazakhstan’s commitment to this strategic partnership, Chairman Maulen Ashimbayev congratulated President Pezeshkian on his recent election victory and reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s interest in expanding bilateral relations. "Kazakhstan attaches great importance to expanding relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran," Ashimbayev stated. He highlighted the areas ripe for collaboration, including economic and trade relations, transportation, oil, gas, industrial sectors, and cultural and scientific exchanges.
Ashimbayev also emphasized the cultural affinity between the two nations, noting the Kazakh people’s admiration for Iranian art and literature, particularly the works of Iranian poets. He offered Kazakhstan’s parliamentary support to fortify these bilateral ties, describing Iran as a strategic partner.
This meeting signals a significant step in the commitment of Iran and Kazakhstan to not only preserve their rich cultural heritage but also to adapt it into a cooperative framework that addresses contemporary economic and geopolitical challenges.
