US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed optimism regarding statements from Hamas spokespeople welcoming the UN resolution, emphasizing the importance of the position of leadership on the ground in Gaza.
Leaders, foreign ministers, and officials from 75 countries, as well as international organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, will be participating in discussions.
The organizers highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for assistance due to widespread destruction, hunger, and trauma.
Secretary Blinken’s visit aims to negotiate a ceasefire to alleviate suffering in Gaza, release hostages, and increase humanitarian aid. This agreement has the potential to enhance stability, foster cooperation between Israel and its Arab neighbors, and improve regional security in the long term.
After departing from the Occupied Territories, Secretary Blinken will proceed to Jordan as part of his West Asian tour, which includes stops in Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, and Qatar from June 10-12. The focus of these discussions will be on securing a ceasefire and providing humanitarian aid to Gaza. Following his regional tour, Secretary Blinken will join President Biden at the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Apulia, Italy from June 13-14.
Since October 7 and the Israeli regime’s military actions in Gaza, more than 37,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 83,300 others have been wounded, as the Palestinian territories have remained under occupation for over 75 years.
